CURRENCY
The major banks in the Fiji Islands are ANZ, Westpac, Bank of Hawaii, Colonial National Bank, Bank of Baroda. Money changing facilities are also available through Thomas Cook, Western Union and through your Hotel.
Normal banking hours: 9.30am to 3pm (Monday to Thursday) & from 9.30am to 4pm on Fridays. Banks are closed during the weekends and public holidays.
ATM machines (for Westpac, Bank of Hawaii, ANZ) & EFTPOS available at selected areas.
VISA
No entry permit is required for visitors (travelling on NZ passports) staying in the Fiji Islands 30 days or less.
CLIMATE
Fiji enjoys an ideal South Seas tropical climate. It is thus a perfect holiday destination, especially for those trying to escape the severe northern hemisphere winters. Maximum summer temperatures average 30°C (86°F) and the mean minimum is 23°C (73°F). The winter average maximum is 26°C (79°F) and the mean minimum is 20°C (68°F).
LANGUAGE
English is the official language spoken in Fiji. Other languages commonly spoken include Fijian, Hindi & Rotuman, Gibertese & Chinese.
RELIGION
The main religions in Fiji are Christianity, Hinduism and Islam. The majority of indigenous Fijians are Methodists.
HEALTH/MEDICAL FACILITIES
There is a variety of public and private medical services available in most major centres.
WATER
The tap water in Fiji is generally safe although it may be advisable to boil water before drinking. Bottled water is available in most places.
